Term Project

Problems Encountered

At last I have done the project. There are many problems that I have been facing so far for the last two weeks. The first problem that I found is what topics I should choose, and what theme should I apply to. This is the most time-consuming stage. This is because I have to plan how the website is going to be like, and what JAVA and DHTML script I should use. After I came out with the idea, I decided that each page will have to same format, which I referred it as the theme. I used CSS, both HTML and DHTML, to make a design. I decided that I did not want the code to be that long because I would face difficulties in relocate the script and also that I want the webpage to be as short—in height—as possible, so I used the frames’ floating method. Another problem that I faced is that the pictures that I found and used are not so high quality. This due to the fact that I have to retrieve it from MS. Encarta and other several travel websites. Lastly, the biggest problem that I found is that I could not make my webpage worked in Netscape. This due to the fact that Netscape has lots of complicated code than IE. I also could not make my page viewed correctly on Internet Explorer with other resolutions besides 1024X768. The code seems to be too complicated and limited to only the use of complicated JavaScript. I actually asked my friend, who is a webpage author, about this problem and he said that he used a program from Adobe to fix the problem. However, I did not have that program and I did not know how to use it so that I could not make it works as it should be.

The Techniques Used

There are many html, dhtml, and javascripts techniques that I used for creating this webpage. For html, I used image maps as the navigator. I used frames as a logo. I also used frames as a theme for my pages. I used form, which I combined it with JavaScript to make a navigator. And I used CSS, which I combined it with DHTML to make a theme for each page. For JavaScript, I used it to show the date in the homepage. I also used it to show time, too. I used Java applet file from the textbook cd-rom to create the ending page. And I used several other scripts which I combine it with DHTML to create a dynamic webpage. This includes pop-ups, links, transformation effect, filter, etc.
